About Me — The Good, the Bad & The Rusty
A space dedicated to real-world tools, carpentry inspiration, and practical innovation across loft conversions, home extensions, various projects, and custom outbuildings like sheds, cabins, and workshops.
I’m Sam, a full-time carpenter running my own business and working directly in people’s homes. My projects range from loft conversions and home extensions to bespoke timber builds, workshop setups, and a wide variety of custom carpentry projects. Every job is different, and every tool I use has to earn its place in the kit. That’s what inspired this blog.
Why I Started This Blog
After years on the tools, I realised there’s often a big gap between what brands put in a glossy tool brochure and what actually holds up on-site. This blog is my way of sharing real, no-nonsense insights — the gear that genuinely works, the setups that make life easier, and the lessons that come from doing the job for real.
Whether you’re a fellow tradesperson, a DIYer, or someone curious about how things get built, my goal is to help you:
-
Discover tools that genuinely deliver
-
Avoid the ones that don’t
-
Get inspired for your next project
-
Improve your workflow, workshop, or jobsite setup
-
Stay up to date with innovations shaping the carpentry and DIY world
